Introduction to Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources - Mr. Biegel
In March of 2017, this introductory level course of 10th and 11th grade students completed multiple lessons on recycling and how they can improve the well-being of the Earth they live on. Efforts include information as to why recycling is important, what people can do with recycled items, and which items are and are not recyclable, among many others. Towards the end of the lesson, students recycled many items and created their own recycled clothing fashion show to display to the class, and other school attendees. Students strutted the runway, and then explained how they utilized the items that they chose in their own recycled ideas! Fun learning had by all!

Environmental Science - Mr. Cantor
As a followup to 'Eutrophication' that the Environmental Science classes have been learning about, students were able to get a hands-on experience with oyster filtration and identifying species native to the Chesapeake Bay, in March of 2017. Lessons included water resources and pollution. Morgan State University PEARL Mission brought their own resources for the presentations, and students enjoyed working in groups to create hypotheses and create their own laboratory investigations.

Fundamentals of Art - Ms. Sims
Students created Gee's Bend, Mardi Gras Indian, and Sara Rahbar inspired quilts. Students of 9th through 12th grade designed their own quilts using completely recycled items. After researching and learning about these techniques in the Fall of 2016, students were tasked with creating their own quilts and staying within set guidelines, with close attention to using only recycled materials. The parameters for the lesson included that the students used 100% donated, re-purposed materials, which was important in relation to the styles and creativity of the artists studied. Students put themselves in the artists' mindset and took over the various aspects. Students chose to make quilts with scrap fabric, buttons, trim, and many more creative ideas.
