School Active in the Community
Project Clean Stream
Members of the Falcons Fly Green Team joined Baltimore Recreations and Parks on April 1st, 2017, to help clean the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay surrounding the Baltimore Rowing Club. Visiting the Cherry Hill area of Baltimore, students learned about the dangers of littering and where the majority of waste from the city ends up. While sorting and cleaning the trash on the beaches, students were able to see first-hand how trash from the members of the community effect the ecosystem and habitats of local wildlife. After working tirelessly for many hours, our group only put a small dent in the amount of trash and recyclables covering the shorelines. This activity is part of a clean water effort called Project Clean Stream, and the students are looking forward to working with this group more often.

Playground and Community Build
Thirteen students spend day with the KaBoom partnership, in October 2016, building a playground with other community groups and schools for a neighborhood in the Brehms Lane Elementary School area. Within a day, the playground was up and functional and the area was completely renovated. While some students worked on building the playground, others completed tiles for an outdoor mural and many different arts and crafts for the surrounding natural areas. This project taught the students and mentors a lot of great lessons and brought everyone together for a common goal.

Student Visit to the Food Bank
A group of six RFL students visit the Maryland Food Bank at the beginning of February 2017 to dedicate their day to learning the ins and outs of food preparation and packaging in the Food Bank. While on the visit, students learned from the chefs and culinary students how important education is in the workforce and what on-the-job training can be offered in different industries. Students gained hands-on service hours by weighing and packaging foods to be stored and distributed for families in need around Maryland.
