Solid Waste Reduction
RFL Campus Cleanup Project
The Falcons Fly Green Team hosted a campus cleanup in the Fall of 2016, to reduce the solid waste in the frequented areas surrounding the school. Students took this opportunity to participate by taking trash bags in hand and patrolling the campus on foot to pick up litter. Participants included many involved students including our volleyball team, not limiting it to the Green Team. The more students the merrier and a great time was had by all. With approximately 10 full trash bags, more Campus Cleanups are in the plans for when the Spring weather breaks! |
Recycling Poster Creations 2017
With February being CTE (Career and Technology Education) Month, the Agriculture department educated students on many different safe, green practices, including recycling. Students across different disciplines and content areas took part in a poster creating period where their work is displayed in the hallways throughout the school. Everyone worked together and took pride in the work that they created. |
Recycling Movement Begins
After plans and actions were put into place, Reginald F. Lewis is now a pickup site for recycling in Baltimore City. Students created the classroom recycle bins by wrapping used paper boxes to go in classrooms throughout the school and collect the contents of the boxes during school on Mondays to be placed outside in large bins for pickup on Tuesday mornings. Many agriculture students combined their efforts to create enough boxes to have one in each classroom throughout the school. A flyer decorates the front of each box to inform school community members of what is and is not recyclable. Students are encouraging others to recycle and will offer their time to collect the recycled items. The large official bins were fortunately in the school already to be used, but had been acting as trash cans. Actions are being encouraged by the student body and students are offering to be in charge of recycling practices. Recycling began throughout the school campus in March of 2017. |
